How to score Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) matches have timed rounds.
Points awarded for dominant positions (e.g., mount: 4 points, passing guard: 3 points, sweeps: 2 points).
Matches can end instantly by submission (tap out) regardless of points.
If no submission occurs, the competitor with the highest points at the end wins.
A BJJ scoreboard tracks two key things:
1️⃣ Points for each competitor – Awarded by referee during match.
2️⃣ Round timer – Counts down the remaining time. ➕ Optionally a BJJ scoreboard can track penalties and advantages.
